Jay began performing at the age of six, when he started taking dance lessons. After eleven years, five studios and numerous titles including Mr. Dance of Canada, Jay completed his competitive dance career.
At seventeen, he began studies at Ryerson Theatre School and graduated three years later with extensive training in all aspects of the performing arts.
Jay’s professional career began aboard Princess Cruises, traveling around the world and performing alongside celebrities from across the globe. On returning home, Jay was immediately cast in West Side Story at Stratford Festival and hasn’t stopped working since. He has performed at The Charlottetown Festival, The Royal Alexandra, The Elgin Theatre, the Hummingbird, the Queen Elizabeth, the Princess of Wales, Stage West, Huron Country Playhouse and many more. Some of his favourite roles include: Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, Mikey in Shear Madness, Bat Boy in the Canadian premiere of Batboy - The Musical, Pepper in Mamma Mia, Action in West Side Story, and Barnaby Tucker in Hello Dolly.
Film roles include: Felix in the Gemini nominated film for the CBC & Bravo "From Time to Time” featuring the music of Joni Mitchell. Ted in "According to John" (IFC) and Jake in "Ethan" (IFC).
On TV, you can hear JT as the voice of Blinky the Penguin on the new Discovery Kids series "Willa's Wild Life". He is also the voices of Satoru Kakuta and Hoichi Takano in the animated series "Slam Dunk". He has appeared in CBC's "Getting Along Famously" and in Showtime's "Queer As Folk". You may also have seen him in commercials for Pfizer, Rogers, Swiffer Sweeper, Bell Mobility, OLGC and Kellogg's.
Jay provided the motion capture for the action hero Hadyn in the XBOX 360 / PS3 video game "Dark Sector". View the trailer in the Multimedia section.
As an educator, he has taught for facilities like: Randolph Academy, George Brown College, Sheridan College, Etobicoke School of the Arts, Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts, the Charlottetown Young Company and more.
Jay has choreographed award winning competitive pieces for over 8 different nationally recognized studios. His professional choreographic and Asst. Choreo credits include: "Little Shop of Horrors", "Anything Goes", "Guys & Dolls", "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Bella Dancerella".
He has adjudicated talent competitions across Canada & the US including: Dance Masters of America, Dance Dance Canada, Terpsichore, DForce, Starmaker, Footloose, Champions and more.
He is a published writer and has contributed to "The Agent's Book" as well as several pieces for the magazines Hot Shoes News & Dance Canada Quarterly
JT is a proud union member of Canadian Actor's Equity Association (CAEA), American Actor's Equity (AEA) and Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television & Radio Artists (ACTRA). In Toronto, he is represented by Butler Ruston Bell Talent.
JT is married to Choreographer / Director Kerry Gage and lives in Mimico with their cat Bella.
